First Day of School!

Monday, August 17, 2020

Zoey's first day of 11th grade was today! She started her day around 8:30am and ended at 2:30pm. The first day consisted of the following subjects: Health, Math, History, English/Lit/Poetry, Spanish, Music Theory, and Art. Extra things that made up her day included yoga and practicing guitar and piano.

This year we ended up getting an inexpensive desk from Walmart.com for a room upstairs that we changed up to be our "school" room. She usually ends up doing school at the kitchen table, outside, or in the living room but instead of having her books scattered everywhere in the house this year, I though it would be nice to have a place where everything belonged. We'll see if this idea pans out.

First up was yoga, piano practice and then math. We're using a different math curriculum this year...fingers crossed that it will be a good fit.

After math she worked her way through history, literature/poetry, Spanish, art and music theory. Ending her day with practicing guitar.

After lunch we decided to head outside since it was so nice. So handy to bring her laptop out to the picnic table.

A little review for Spanish to start. We are using something different for Spanish this year and Zoey's pretty excited. It's an online class and this is her learning some signs to go along with some of the Spanish words and phrases.

Art was doing some sketches of spheres and apples, thinking about where your light source was and shading accordingly.

A pretty nice day overall. Not too overwhelming and not too light. We ended the day not feeling frustrated or depleted of energy. I think we're off to a pretty good start. Thankful we're both still excited about homeschooling. Pretty crazy to think that this is our fifth year homeschooling!

I'm hoping to share updates here at least once or twice a week this year. Zoey loves looking back and seeing what she did throughout the year and it's a nice way for me to remember as well when it's time to work on transcripts and her portfolio. I will update her reading list as the year goes on as well.

Here's to a great rest of the week!

  1. I see Life of Fred. We've used it for several years and my kids absolutely love it. My oldest scored pretty high on the ACT and she is not a Math person. Btw. I deleted my Instagram. Maybe I'll brush up my blog and update our home school year there. Hope you guys have a great year!
