Random Happenings

Things have been busy lately, I haven't been able or perhaps willing, to carve out regular time for blogging. We're all getting a bit stir crazy here with the winter seemingly going on and on. We tried to get out one day earlier this week to get some fresh air and it was so very bitter cold! We did discover a little trail that's close to our home that we didn't know about, so that will be fun to seek out and use more once it's warmer!

For science we are still making our way through Guest Hollow's anatomy and health study. We are approaching nutrition right now and moving quickly into the health portion of the curriculum. Zoey has been pursuing other interests when it comes to science along the way. Some including chemistry experiments and she's still very much interested in the periodic table of elements ever since reading the Itch book trilogy. I've also been bringing home some books on herbs and plants for her when I find them since she is still interested in the study of botany. These two were ones that I requested through our WISCAT system at the library and they are very cool for both kids and adults alike.

Zoey's been LOVING watching the Crash Course videos on Philosophy lately. She seriously can't get enough of them! I'm so happy that we discovered this resource!

For one of her science projects last week she was supposed to bake bread from scratch using yeast. I don't know if the yeast we used was old, if she manipulated the flour too much or if our house is just too cold for yeast to rise (very possible!!), but it didn't rise the way that it should have. It still tasted good and made the house smell good but was very dense, just means that we will have to try again in the future to see if we have more success. Zoey isn't upset about this!

In history and literature this past week she finished up reading some books, My Family and Other Animals as well as Breaking Stalin's Nose. She started reading Habibi on Friday and will work through a study guide for that. She completed a country profile last week as well as finished up a Geography essay on mining in Cornwall in Google Drive. We are finding that using Google Drive is perfect for working on something back and forth and in real time. Very thankful for that free resource!

I recently moved our family games upstairs to a hutch in the living room in hopes that being able to see them would mean that we would play them more. So far it's been working! It's funny how simply rearranging them can make us think to use them!

Tomorrow will be a busier than usual Monday for us. Ethan will be gone all day and evening (nothing really new there, we're lucky really if we have two evenings a week together during the week). Zoey's got her homeschool co-op drama class, I've got to take the garbage to the dump since road limits have now been enforced, Zoey has a new(ish) friend coming over for a bit after her homeschool group meets and then I'll take both girls to their dance class in the evening. Come home, walk the dog, make dinner, do the dishes, fold the laundry...yay...yay...yay! :) I'm already looking forward to the part where we collapse at the end of the day.

Here's to a hopefully productive week!
